Underverse 0.5 is the first episode of Underverse Season 2. It was released on December 16, 2020. Classic!Sans returns home, while XGaster arrives in the main universe to launch an invasion.

Summary

The episode begins with Classic!Sans returning home. After changing into a new jacket, he threatens Classic!Frisk about their promise before having a conversation over his experience on the adventure. Then Sans heads to Grillby's. Frisk has a conversation with Chara about the Overwrite button before they are confronted by XGaster, who knows about "the incident" (referring to Owners, where Sans killed Frisk in a genocide run, causing the timeline to glitch and reset, making Sans the owner of the timeline). XGaster offers for Frisk to join him, but Frisk refuses, knowing XGaster's true intentions. XGaster concludes the conversation saying that there is no in-between between perfection and failure.

The XTale cast arrive in the main universe alongside XGaster and Ink!Sans. Ink reminisces upon his act he played on his previous adventure, and asks XGaster what his plan for "Phase 3" is. XGaster does not answer his question, and only states that he does not want to be rushed. Ink goes on to talk to XChara, commenting on his adult form. Chara gets angry and goes to attack Ink, only to be stopped by his own brother. Knowing that the human was not cooperating, Ink asks XGaster what Plan B is, only to be told by XTale!Alphys that "there is no such thing as Plan B". Ink proceeds to leave after getting an interesting gift from XGaster as he mocks XChara, telling him that he "finds his frustation enjoyable."

Back in the city, Classic!Mettaton is filming a TV show with Burgerpants and Harper at Classic!Muffet's bakery. They are interrupted when the power goes out, followed by an earthquake and a purple explosion across the entire city. Mettaton steps out of the bakery only to find a crowd of people running and is insulted by a human, who tells him and monsters to "Go to hell". Harper spots XTale!Mettaton and XTale!Muffet, who are revealed to be behind the chaos. After being attacked by Classic!Mettaton, the XTale characters are surprised to encounter their Classic counterparts, but shrug it off and engage them. Despite their heroic efforts, the Classic characters are overpowered, and presumably killed.

Back at the house, Classic!Alphys panicks after losing communication with Classic!Mettaton, who is reassured by Classic!Undyne who tells her that Mettaton "will be fine". Classic!Frisk announces that they will not "just stand there" as the ambassador. Frisk gets full support from the other Classic characters as they speed off towards the chaos. XGaster, who knew this was happening, challenges Frisk's decision to stand up against his creations, stating that "It'll just make my job easier".

The episode ends with Classic!Sans sitting by himself away from the destroyed city, with a box of fries, depressingly ignoring the destruction behind him.

Trivia

• A teaser for the episode was released on Jakei's birthday, October 10, 2020.
• This is the first Underverse episode to use YouTube's premiere feature.
• An older version of the thumbnail featured Frisk in their regular outfit, without the overalls, before it was decided that they would wear the overalls throughout the episode.
• Originally, the events of this episode were going to occur during Underverse 0.4, but with Sans still in Outertale and Frisk trying to keep the Undertale cast from figuring out that Sans was missing.
